Spectator Guide
Thursday 19 November
DAY ONE - Barossa Valley & Hills (sponsored by Peter Lehmann Wines)

Recommended spectator locations provide excellent viewing of the cars in action on the special stages or during morning tea, lunch or end-of-day displays and can be easily accessed from main roads. Cars will run through the course in their various categories, in the following order - Category S, Competition, Regularity, Thoroughbred Touring and Classic Tour. Times listed for each stage are for the starting time for the first Category S car; the rest follow at 30-second intervals. Cars race against the clock, not each other.

DAY ONE (THURSDAY) - SPECTATOR GUIDE AND ROAD CLOSURE INFORMATION - 19 November 2009 [PDF 493KB]

Cars can be viewed today at the following points -
START - HILTON ADELAIDE - 9.00am
The first vehicle will leave at 9am, with the remaining vehicles leaving at 30 sec intervals. UBD Map A, Q16

UPPER HERMITAGE - SPECTATOR VIEWING - 9.55am
The official spectator viewing area is on the T-Junction of Seaview Road and Range Road. Enter Seaview Road from Yatala Vale Road and proceed to the Spectator Viewing Area. The cars are seen approaching the viewing area uphill along Seaview Road and then turning very hard turn left into Range Road and blast away uphill.
To get to the best vantage point you must be there by 8.52am - thereafter the area will be 'sealed' and crossing the road will not be permitted. UBD Map 74 A11

GUMERACHA - MORNING TEA - 11.00am
Cars will arrive for a 20 minute morning tea break and park on the oval. UBD Map 89 E10

TANUNDA - LUNCH BREAK – 1.00pm
Set on the lawns below the Old Redemption House at Peter Lehmann's Winery, each vehicle will be here for 60 minutes for lunch. Turn off the Barossa Valley Highway just out of Tanunda onto Para Road and turn right into the winery. No UBD ref.

DAY TWO - FLEURIEU - FRIDAY NOVEMBER 20

A feature of this day is the Willunga Hill stage and then Goolwa for lunch. You must make sure you are back in town for the "Classic Adelaide Gouger Street Party" where the $20 million worth of rally cars will be parked in the street until 9.00pm. All times listed are when the first car is due at the point.

Cars can be viewed today at the following points -

WICKHAMS HILL - SPECTATOR VIEWING - 9.05am
Hard to find but worth the look. Spectators must enter the viewing area via Toops Hill Road. No UBD reference.

WILLUNGA HILL - SPECTATOR VIEWING - 9.40am
The cars start on the outskirts of the Willunga township then head up the hill. The closed special stage is the Old Victor Harbor Road which you view from the "new" Victor Harbor Road. Follow Highway A13 up the Victor Harbor Road to the lookout or anywhere off the highway. Plenty of parking and viewing area. UBD Map 226 D11

YANKALILLA OVAL - MORNING TEA - 10.10am
Cars will arrive for morning tea and park on the oval, each vehicle will be here for 20 minutes. No UBD reference

GOOLWA – DUNBAR ST to RAILWAY TCE - LUNCH - 12.10pm
This is a great spot for everyone to move among the cars while the drivers have lunch. Vehicles will be here for 60 minutes.

GOUGER STREET PARTY - 4.00pm ONWARDS
Gouger Street will be closed to traffic from Morphett Street to Victoria Square. The vehicles will be on display amongst the cafés and bistros until 9.00pm. UBD Map A, G16 to Q16

"MACCIE" is closed for the day and the wide main street is great for wandering around the cars and lunching at the many stalls and shops in the street, each vehicle will be here for 60 minutes. UBD Map 204 D7

STAFFORD RIDGE - SPECTATOR VIEWING AREA 5 – 1.30pm
Enter the Spectator Viewing Area via Lenswood on Coldstore Road and stand left of Croft Road. It's a great spot - you see the cars come out of a left hander, race towards you (you are standing on a 3-4 meter high embankment), then around a 90 degree right-hander and disappear downhill. NORWOOD PARADE STREET PARTY - 3.00pm ONWARDS
Norwood Parade will be closed to traffic from Osmond Terrace to Queen Street. The vehicles will be on display amongst the cafés and bistros until 9.00pm.

Cars will stop for refreshments at Mt Barker and will be parked in the Town Green, by the main roundabout. Vehicle will be here for 20 minutes.

MCLARENS ON THE LAKE - LUNCH - 12.15pm
This well known spot in the Southern region will host the rally for lunch. Vehicles will be here for 60 minutes. UBD Map 207 F14

CHAPEL HILL - SPECTATOR VIEWING - 1.25pm
Enter from Kangarilla via Kangarilla Road and park your car on Baker's Gully Road. Spectating is on a small hill overlooking a straight roadway before the cars take a hard left hand bend. No UBD reference

WINDY POINT - SPECTATOR VIEWING - 2.25pm
The Windy Point Lookout is the spot to be, but you will have to be in there before lunch. The Road Closes at 12.45pm. Why not get there early and enjoy the scenery. It's a great spot for camera buffs. UBD Map 142 J12

FINISH – KING WILLIAM ROAD- HYDE PARK FINALE - 2.40pm
Celebrate with the victors of the Classic Adelaide. King William Road will be closed (from the Hyde Park Tavern end) to traffic from noon to 6pm.
