Welcome
Since it was first run in 1997, Classic Adelaide has become “one of the world's great rallies”.
Classic Adelaide engages the entire State as it brings the sight, sound and colour of a bygone era to the doorstep of more than a million people living within a 100km radius of Adelaide. A unique feature of the event, which has made it a favourite with the participants, is its 'hub' format.
Each day's course starts in the heart of the city and travels through some of South Australia's premier wine districts and tourism hot spots, enjoying a warm welcome from spectators along the route. The rally returns each night to the Adelaide CBD allowing entrants to enjoy the best fine dining and hospitality made famous during the Adelaide Grand Prix era.
Classic Adelaide is conducted over a number of special stages utilising sealed public roads. The rally will cover a total distance of approximately 1000 kilometres, including transport stages, over five days. The event includes approximately 32 special stages, which are conducted over roads temporarily closed to the public, although spectators are permitted in designated areas. The total length of the special stages is around 250kms, with competing cars passing through at thirty second time intervals. When travelling from one special stage to another (referred to as being in a transport stage) competitors are required to observe all road traffic rules and behave at all times as would a normal road user, providing them the chance to take in some of South Australia’s stunning scenery.
The participation of 'regular' guests, including Murray Walker, Sir Jack Brabham, Vern Schuppan and Stirling Moss in Classic Adelaide , confirms the status of this international motoring event, as 'one of the world's great rallies'.

The 2009 Classic Adelaide once again promises to excite the passions of car enthusiasts and nostalgia buffs alike. The event’s reputation as one of the world’s great rallies is built on the wonderfully restored and maintained classic vehicles on show, and the spirited competition that it generates.
It also provides a fantastic showcase for South Australia’s outstanding attractions, with the rally taking in iconic locations such as the Barossa Valley, the Adelaide Hills and the Fleurieu Peninsula. |
As was the case with our hugely-successful Tour Down Under cycling event, Classic Adelaide allows visitors to enjoy the very best of our scenery, our hospitality and our world-class food and wines while also getting an up-close view of these ageless machines.
In staging events such as Classic Adelaide and the award-winning Clipsal 500, South Australia has established itself as the home for high-quality motor sports events.
The South Australian Government is proud to sponsor Classic Adelaide, which is now in its 13th year, and we look forward to welcoming participants and fans to our State.

Mike Rann
Premier of South Australia

Adelaide
The wine and festival capital of Australia, Adelaide is one of the most vibrant, stylish and innovative cities you'll ever visit. It's a place to experience the buzz, culture and convenience of a big city without the frustrations. The city centre, surrounded by parklands, is a charming blend of historic buildings, wide streets, numerous shops, street cafes and restaurants.
Beautiful, bald hills sweep down to sun-drenched beaches. Wineries, orchards and pastures are patch-worked between bushland, and quiet, dappled roads lead to alluring cellar doors where you can sit back and take it all in.
And it's less than 40 minutes from Adelaide. Jump in the car and you can be walking, surfing or fishing on umpteen long, sandy beaches, or eating the catch of the day at the beachside Flying Fish café at Port Elliot.
Further around the coast you'll find Victor Harbor, South Australia's most popular seaside town with its horse-drawn tram to Granite Island, the historic Cockle steam train and whales playing just off shore in the winter months. Then it's round to the pretty, historic river port of Goolwa, Hindmarsh Island and the mighty Murray River mouth and the internationally renowned Coorong National Park.
Come and experience South Australia – a Brilliant Blend
